Bio-Ostetic™ Bone Void Filler

Filling the Void

Bi-Ostetic™ Bone Void Filler (BVF) is a synthetic, osteoconductive material intended to be used to fill voids and gaps that are not intrinsic to the stability of bone structure. These gaps or voids may be located in the extremities, spine, or pelvis.

Bi-Ostetic is an excellent choice for the demands of orthopedic surgery. In spine surgery, it can be used to fill a void in the sacrum or as a substitute or adjunct to autograft or allograft during posterolateral fusion. Bi-Ostetic is not indicated for use in the interbody space during interbody fusion procedures or in load bearing applications.

The Framework

Bi-Ostetic ™ BVF consists of:

TRI-CALCIUM PHOSPHATE. A mineral form of bone, tri-calcium phosphate, Ca3(PO4)2, is commonly used in bone void fillers and bone graft materials due to its osteoconductive properities.

COLLAGEN. The main protein of connective tissue in animals, collagen is a structural protein and is often used as a delivery medium or “carrier” for bone growth proteins and other chemicals.

HYDROXYAPATITE. A naturally occurring mineral form of calcium apatite, hydroxyapatite is found in bones and is commonly used as a coating to promote bone ingrowth into prosthetic implants.

Indications for Use: Bi-Ostetic is indicated for use in bony voids or gaps that are not intrinsic to the stability of the bony structure. The product should be gently packed into bony voids or gaps of the skeletal system (i.e., the extremities, spine and pelvis). These defects may be surgically created osseous defects or osseous detects created from traumatic injury to the bone. The product provides a bone void filler that resorbs and is replaced by the growth of new bone during the healing process. In weight bearing situations, the graft is to be used in conjunction with internal or external fixation devices. The fracture defect treated should not exceed 30 mL.

Caution federal law restricts this device to use by or on the order of a physician.
